Mechanisms
On another page I said that I had always had an interest in mechanisms.  I find the rhythmical
movement of mechanisms almost hypnotic.

On this page I have created a few simple movements to show what I mean.  All machines are
made up of a few simple mechanical devices such as those shown here.  Some are very
ingenious.  By the way, the words 'ingenious' and 'Engineer' have a common root.  I intend to add
to the collection as time passes but it is very expensive in terms of time to create some of these
animations so please bear with me as I have to earn a living as well!

Linear
Motion

Mechanisms involve motion of some sort.  There
are only 4 basic types of motion:
Linear;
Rotary;
Reciprocating; and
Oscillating.

All other movement is a combination of these 4 in
one form or another.

Cam and follower

A device which transforms the rotary motion of the cam to a
linear motion of the follower.  The cam can be shaped to give
a pre-programmed series of movements in one rotation of
the cam.  I will be adding examples later.

A series of cams like this, arranged on a camshaft is used to
open and close the valves in an internal combustion engine
