This sundial is part of the EarthDial Project organised as a complement to the Mars Rover project. The project involves sundials all around the world built to a specific design and all can be viewed on the World Wide Web. Click on the EarthDial Logo above to visit the site. Click here to visit my other page and learn more about the building of my dial.
I have built the dial as an individual project and a contribution to the worldwide project, I hope that you like it. Other pages explain the background to the images incorporated on the dial and the location. I have long been interested in scientific things, I trained and worked as a Mechanical Engineer before becoming a schoolteacher. I have a very enquiring mind and have a need to understand how things work and relate to each other and the world. I becam interested in sundials some years ago when carrying out a project on time at my school some years ago.
My Dial is based in a small village called Walcote situated near the middle of England approximately at Lat. 52n. ;long. 1 w. The M1 and M6 Motorways (Freeways) meet nearby. These are very important routes running from the South to the north east and north west of England and on to Scotland.
Walcote is an ancient settlement and you can read more about it here. There is some information about the village, it's location and it's history as well as a description of nearby towns and cities in the English Midlands.
